As Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) is a thermoplastic polymer, it is inherently very hard and rigid. However, the physical properties of PVC cables can be easily modified by manufacturers to be more flexible or more rigid. PVC cables have a very stable chemical makeup, which allows it to be used as insulators for conductors placed in situations with high or low temperatures. Also, PVC protects the inner conductor from UV radiation and degradation. Its insulation also protects the internal cabling from UV rays, and its robustness and durability are some of its main selling points.
H05VV-F cables can be used for small appliances in offices, kitchens and households. As PVC can withstand higher temperatures, PVC sheathed and insulated flexible cables are extremely suitable for heating and cooking equipment, as long as the cable does not come into direct contact with heated or hot surfaces. Apart from home installations and appliances, H05VV-F cables can also be used for light, mobile appliances such as portable radios or other transportable electronics. These cables are also oil resistant, making them suitable to be used for greasy and oil-defendant tasks.
Crucially, H05VV-F cables can be best described as light-duty cables. They are best suited for use where there is low to medium mechanical stress, to ensure optimum performance and durability. They are also suitable for fixed applications in and on furniture, wall partitions, or hollow portions within buildings. These cables can also handle moisture and work extremely well in moist areas. However, it should not be installed in outdoor areas.
H05VV-F are also harmonised cables, meaning they are built according to and meet standardised, international benchmarks set by the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardisation. In practise, this ensures that H05VV-F cables are compatible with most equipment produced in Europe.
H05VV-F cables are very flexible, more so than cables used solely for fixed installations. As such, they are a fantastic fit for industrial wiring installations that are not subject to excessive mechanical stress and pressure.
