BFOU cables are marine XAI cables, that is widely used within the gas and oil industries for both land and offshore applications. Because of its flame-resistance properties, it is often commonly utilised in various emergency and vital equipment that ranges from fire alarms to lighting systems. The XAI designation is issued to marine cables that have 1kV of power and control, medium voltage up to 30kV, and 150/250V instrumentation cables.More Information
BFOU cables consist of tinned annealed stranded copper conductors and are colour-labelled for efficient identification. It is unique and differs from other similar cables as it has a Mica glass tape (MGT) in its construction.
BFOU cables in Singapore are specifically designed to be flame-resistant because they are often utilised in volatile environments that have fluctuating temperatures and elements. These cables are also manufactured according to NEK-606 standard, which means it has halogen-free properties to facilitate safer management in case of an outbreak of fire. This property allows it to prevent noxious fumes and acid-forming gases from being created during a fire. BFOU cables are also crafted to handle the harsh environments of both the offshore and land and can operate in temperature ranging from -40oC to +90oC.
Being MUD-resistant, BFOU cables are extremely resilient against drilling oils and hydrocarbons. This is required as the cables need to resist the acidic or corrosive nature of these chemicals.
BFOU power cables are suitable for fixed installation for power, control and lighting in both EX (Zone 0,1 & 2) and safe areas, emergency and critical systems where requirement for fire resistance exists. It can be used in all marine environment conditions such as muddy, dry, wet or oily conditions meeting the requirements of NEK606.
