XLPE INSULATED, PVC BEDDED, GALVANISED STEEL WIRE ARMOURED, PVC SHEATHED CABLE
Application
Use for industry constructions, switching boxes, industrial plants, underground applications where there is no risk mechanical damage. The armour above the outer sheath protects the cable from mechanical shocks. Suitable for indoor and outdoor, in cable ducts, direct burial in earth or in the water.

The CU/XPLE/PVC/SWA/PVC cables can be used in indoor and outdoor fixed installations, in the ground or in the air. CU/XPLE/SWA/PVC are suitable for installation inside buildings, directly buried within the ground, can be used embedded within concrete and even be used in watery environments. Its ability to handle heavy-duty mechanical load also ensures it can be used for taxing applications when there is little to no risk of mechanical damage.
In CU/XLPE/PVC/SWA/PVC cables, the conductor is made of plain annealed copper, either stranded circular or compacted. Its outer sheath is of PVC type ST2. PVC, or polyvinyl chloride, is a synthetic plastic compound that can be augmented to possess distinct characteristics. It is fire resistant due to its high chlorine levels and is extremely stable chemically, which means it will be hardly affected by chemical corrosion or cause any unwanted chemical reactions.
To provide further protection to CU/XLPE/PVC/SWA/PVC cables, they are insulated by the XLPE insulation. XLPE, otherwise known as cross-linked polyethylene compound. Cross-linking the polyethylene compound improves its resistance to abrasion and resistance to cracking due to environmental stress. It is able to handle lower temperatures. Impact and tensile strength, resistance to scratches and brittle fractures are also enhanced.
CU/XLPE/PVC/SWA/PVC cables are also reinforced with armour. This comes in the form of galvanised steel wires, which provide extra protection and armour to each cable, bringing even more hardiness and resistance to the cables. Galvanised steel wire armoured cables are commonly used for cables with 2 cores and above.
Put together, SWA & SWB cables are flame retardant, resistant to UV emissions and are also anti-rodent. This is what allows them to be used in such a diverse range of applications in Singapore.
Steel Wire Braid (SWB) is also another option of armoured layer besides Steel Wire Armoured (SWA).
